What is Google Africa Developer Scholarship Program

Google Africa Developer Scholarship program is a Grow with Google, Andela, and Pluralsight partnership to support software developers in Africa on Android, Google Cloud, and Mobile Web courses. The aim of this program is to continuously engage with aspiring and existing developers on these tracks to become professional developers with skills that can get them opportunities after the program.

What is Andela Learning Community

The Andela Learning Community is a network of technologists and tech enthusiasts across Africa dedicated to learning how to use technology to solve humanity’s problems. The ALC facilitates your learning through the aid of guided mentorship from super awesome learning community ambassadors. Our goal is to provide an ever-growing population of aspiring technologists with the resources and environments they need to become world-class problem solvers.

What is the Duration of this Program?

The program will be executed in 5 different phases
  • Application Phase -(APRIL - JUNE) - 6 Weeks
  • Learning Phase 1 - (JUNE - JULY) - 6 Weeks
  • Learning Phase 2 - (JULY - SEPT) - 6 Weeks
  • Project Phase - (SEPT - OCT) - 3 Weeks
  • Certification Phase - (OCT - DEC) - 6 Weeks

How to advance to the Learning Phase 2

  • AAD - 100+ score on Associate Android Developer Skill IQ OR 10+ hrs of role-specific engagement
  • MWS - 100+ average score over 2/3 Mobile Web Specialist Skill IQ assessments OR 10+ hrs of role-specific engagement
  • CLOUD - 100+ score on Associate Cloud Engineer Skill IQ assessment OR 10+ hrs of role-specific engagement

Can I change my track

No, unfortunately, you cannot change tracks post-selection. You will have to stick with the track you have.

What is GADS Leaderboard?

The leaderboard shortlists and recognizes the top GADS 2020 learners based on the points they earn from various aspects of the program.

How do I earn points?

  • Course Content Engagement
    • You earn 1 point for every 10 hours of the course content you have engaged with.
  • Skill IQ Score
    • You earn 4 points when you score 100 in your skill IQ
  • Collaboration
You earn 1 point for every mentor nomination as one of the most engaged learners on your slack group

How we will award Badges in Learning Phase 1?

  • Learning Badge
    • You earn a Learning Badge if you engage with 10+ hours.
    • You earn a Top Learner Learning Badge if you engage with at least 120 hours.
  • Skill IQ Badge
    • You earn a Skill IQ Badge if you get at least 100 in your skill IQ score.
    • You earn a Top Learner Skill IQ Badge if you get at least 250 in your skill IQ score.
  • Collaboration Badge
    • You earn a collaboration Badge if you are nominated by your mentor as one of the most engaged learners on slack.
    • If you are nominated as more than 4 times you will earn a top collaborator.

I can’t find my name when I search on the Leaderboard

The Leaderboard shortlists the top 5,000 learners only that is why you are not able to view your name yet. Keep engaging with content or take your Skill IQ to improve your ranking. The Leaderboard will be updated every week on FRIDAY so you have a chance of appearing once data has been updated based on your engagement.

The hours I am seeing on Pluralsight is different from what I am seeing on Leaderboard.

The leaderboard data is updated on a weekly basis while Pluralsight data in realtime.

If l download course content from Pluralsight and watch offline will that still counts for the hours

Yes you can still watch offline and connect later to get your hours synced

How do I get my Qwiklabs login credentials?

You have to use the links provided within the video modules only. Otherwise, you cannot access the free Qwiklabs offered in the program. Go to Pluralsight, get into the video course, look for the Lab modules, Open the provided link and enjoy the redirect to Qwiklabs.

Will I be provided with a job at the end of the course?

We don’t guarantee job opportunities post the program but the skills gained will help you get opportunities after the program. Learners qualified for open roles at Andela and Andela Talent Marketplace will be recommended for those opportunities.
